The reconstruction period was regarded as a flawed victory for various reasons. The issues of dealing with economic, political as well as social reconstructions from a gender perspective, reveals that women we helping in the reconstruction after the civil war. Women were not recognized as they were supposed to be even after their continued efforts in helping in the reconstruction of the nation. The Republican congress rejected the presidents Andrew Johnson plan for reconstruction and instead enacted laws to empower the federal government in enforcing equal rights for the blacks from the south a right to vote and holding a state office. There was emergence of opposition groups that opposed the government violently for enacting equal rights. Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was one of the most violent groups that emerged during this important period. The north also dropped the issue of protecting the rights of blacks which on the other hand brought back the whites supremacy through out the south and brought the reconstruction to an end.
The reconstruction period was a flawed victory as it was filled with blemishes. Corruption and misgovernment was the order of the day and was claimed it was because the blacks were allowed in politics. This was used to justify the racial discrimination to the blacks and also contributed to denying the blacks the rights to vote. The reconstruction period was the hardest time for blacks due to different problems they were going through and was also a memorable time for America is it shaped the social, political and economical status of the American people.
